On April 16, 2022, seven Hawaii Kai Lions met at Hahaione Elementary School to repair the sidewalk cracks on Pepeekeo Street surrounding the school.  Scott Goto, from the City’s Division of Road Maintenance’s Malama O Ka Aina (MOKA) community volunteer program, as well as Lions’ Safe Sidewalk Coordinator Jerry Nagatani, were also present.  Scott demonstrated how to mix and apply the concrete-like material to the cracks.  Thereafter, the Lions split up into two groups to begin the repairs; but unfortunately, it rained heavily and the project had to be cancelled.

Lions participating in this event included Cynthia Chun, Alvin Hayashibara, Yolisa Ishibashi, Bill Kern, Frances Lum, Ken Nishibun, and Allen Umeda.

Since this project was cancelled, a future date will be worked on with the City to complete this portion of the project.  Other streets will also be scheduled for later in the year.  A great big “Thank You” to those Lions who showed up for this event, even though it had to be cancelled and everyone got drenched.
