Hawaii Kai Lions District 50 - Club Number 14324

April 2015 President’s Message

Published by Webmaster on

Aloha, Lions! As we enter the third and final quarter of our fiscal year, the activity levels and momentum are accelerating at an incredible rate! In addition to the upcoming District 50 Convention in May and the International Convention in June, our club’s and zone’s activities seem to be increasing with lots of fun projects and events coming up.

First, in looking back over March, we’ve had a successful CIS party with sashimi and all kinds of ono food, thanks to Tom Jones, Bill Modglin, and Eric Kvick. It was one of our best-attended events this year, and the compliments overflowed! Thanks to all the folks who brought additional food to the event, as well. The March 13-15 weekend was a fun-filled weekend for Hawaii Leos, and was also assisted by Lions Ken Nakagawa, Rick Yee, Ken Nishibun and myself. I highly recommend our club sponsor/prep a meal at next year’s Leo Convention. What a wonderful opportunity to meet the young people who are our future in Lionism! Also on March 13th, several of our Lions helped at the Koko Head School Keiki Karnival. At our March 19th club meeting, our Hawaii Lions Foundation representative (and Koko Head Lions Club President), Selvin Chin-Chance, honored us with a visit to discuss the status of the charitable arm of the District 50 Lions organization. Then on March 28th, Hawaii Kai Lions helped with registration and games at the annual Koko Head Complex Easter Egg Hunt.

Looking ahead to April, we have the Hawaii Kai Library Dedication with Nagoya Joto Lions April 16th, Charter Night at the New Otani Hotel April 17th, and the Hawaii Foodbank Food Drive at the Hawaii Kai Costco parking lot on April 18th. Please also note that the Hawaii Kai Strong Public Outreach program will have a meeting April 1st on “Detection, Warning and Response” at Koko Head District Park, Multipurpose Room C at 7:00 p.m.

As we move into April, a couple very important discussion topics at our April 2nd club meeting will be election of the new Board for the 2015-16 fiscal year, and discussion of proposed Amendments to the Hawaii Lions Foundation and District 50 By-laws.

I’d also like to give you advance warning that our friends in the Koko Head Lions Club will be hosting their Charter Night on May 25th, and a sign-up sheet has been posted to our club website.

Finally, kudos to Eric Kvick and all businesses and Hawaii Kai Lions who donated to the purchase of our very own PlusOptix S12C vision testing machine! Thanks to everyone’s generosity, the amount expended by our club was minimal, and our machine and coupons were delivered to Roger Ede’s office March 28th! Thanks to all who voted for the machine’s purchase or who donated to help buy the machine! The machine will certainly be a great asset to our future vision screenings.

To the 2014-15 Board, we’re on the homestretch now, so please continue to participate and provide your great new ideas, and let’s have a fun time this last quarter!

Mahalo!

Lion President Peggy Oyama
