Aloha Lions, CIS and friends of Hawaii Kai Lions!

Summer has been hot and so has our Club! Our members have participated in several Lions Clubs events in our community:

•6/29/15 – The Hibiscus Lions Club 27th Anniversary Charter Night
•6/29/15 – The East Meets West Dinner with Lions Clubs of China
•7/17/15 – District Governor Kelvin Moniz Zone Meet and Greet Dinner
•8/1/15 – Zone International Youth Camp Diamond Head Hike

Much thanks to all those Lions who were the chairman, organized or participated in these events.

On August 6, 2015, we will be having our New Member recruitment meeting and dinner (CIS invited). Spearheaded by our Membership Director Lion Jeanne Alices, we are hopeful to brief 4-6 prospective members in the continuing efforts of the Hawaii Kai Lions as respects service to our community. Last year, we were successful in bringing in 2 members following our presentation. We all know it is imperative that we continue to seek new members to carry the torch into the future and ensure a healthy club.

With the school year beginning, our club launches into our busiest time of vision and hearing screenings. The tentative schedule of dates and schools has been completed and will be advised by Lion Cynthia Chun. Personally, the vision and hearing screening by the Hawaii Kai Lions are what made me consider joining this great organization. Although I really enjoy our socializing and networking, being part of an organization dedicated to the health of our youth was much more rewarding. If you have not had the opportunity to help in screenings, please make an extra effort to do so, you will thoroughly enjoy it! We will finally be able to use our new PlusOptix vision screening equipment for the first time!

In the immediate future, our club will participate in the annual Heart Walk on 8/8/15 at Kapiolani Park. Should you need details, please contact Lion Bill Modglin. Also, to support the Diamond Head Lions on 8/22/15, we have been asked to assist them at the Kapahulu Bon Dance festivities. Lion Peggy Oyama has shift information for this event.

Mahalo for your continued support! Together we will succeed in service.

Aloha,
Lion David Iwana
