February 18th – 39th Annual Great Aloha Run D50 t-shirt Distribution

What better way to spend a rainy and breezy day than being indoors at the Blaisdell Center to assist with the 39th Annual Great Aloha Run (GAR) t-shirt distribution and sell GAR shirts and caps.  That is what Silvia Ardila, Joni Fukuji (soon-to-be-member), Sandy Gomes, Tom Haia, Alvin Hayashibara, Allen Umeda, and Ellsworth Fujii did on Saturday, February 18 from 8:15am to 7:00pm (in 3 shifts). Unlike in previous years where runners/walkers received their GAR Finisher t-shirt and medallion after they cross the finish line, the t-shirt and medallion were given to them on Saturday and Sunday before the race.  The race started at Aloha Tower and finished across the Aloha Stadium at Richardson Field.  In the past, D50 GAR t-shirt distribution Chairs, Lion Kathy Higa and Lion Guy Hashimoto and a few other Lions would camp overnight on Sunday, prepare an early breakfast, and Lions and Leos would come at 6am on Monday to distribute t-shirts at the Aloha Stadium finish line.

Since this was a D50 event, we met Lions and Leos from other clubs. Allen, Alvin, Sandy, Tom, and Joni distributed t-shirts to the children. Other Lions and Leos distributed t-shirts to the adults.  Silvia and Ells sold t-shirts and caps, which many of the participants purchased. It was a long but enjoyable day!
