February 2015 1st Vice President’s Message

Published by Webmaster on

On behalf of our President Peggy Oyama, let me say aloha to our Lions and friends. Lion Peggy is in Vancouver, British Columbia, taking care of family matters following the passing of her mother on January 22, 2015. Services were held for Mitsu Oyama on January 30, 2015 at the Vancouver Buddhist Temple. We wish to extend our club’s heartfelt sympathy and condolences to Lion Peggy and her family.

With the guidance of the very involved and engaged board of directors, the calendar for this year is very exciting! During the past month, the New Year began with the board and club approval of acquiring an optical screening device as well as participating in reimbursement via the Papa John’s Pizza coupon program. As expressed by Dr. Roger Ede, this equipment will definitely improve the process in vision screening of younger children. As this technology makes us more efficient, I feel it is a great investment for the benefit of the children.

As everyone knows, my wife and I really enjoy the wonder and delight of the holidays. So to spread the spirit of the season, Iris and I hosted the After Glow of Christmas Past on January 24, 2015. Lions and CIS were invited to experience our Christmas house filled with our antique collections, some of which were over 100 years old. Good friend, times and food! May the holiday spirit continue and be with you throughout the year!

And the fun just keeps rolling along with a really busy February that includes the Cub Scout Pack 101 Blue & Gold Banquet, the Zone Social, UH Wahine Basketball game and the Kaiser High School Presentation Judging. Everyone’s participation in these events is always appreciated. Also, further into the future, the Charter Night Banquet and Father’s Day Pancake Breakfast committees are beginning their planning. We welcome any suggestions which will enhance both of these wonderful events.

As we do what we do, don’t forget that as “We Serve”, have fun and enjoy life!

Aloha,
Lion David Iwana
1st Vice President
