February 2019 President’s Message

Published by Webmaster on

Aloha Lions, CIS and friends,

Kung Hei Fat Choi, Chinese New Year begins on February 5, and is the year of the pig. Whether you may celebrate by having a wonderful feast, honoring ancestors or giving lai see “red packets,” Chinese New Year is a time of happiness and good fortune and it’s important to spread the goodwill…just as our Lions do.

Hawaii Kai Lions Club welcomed two new Lions inducted on January 17, Lion Juliette Siehein (sponsor Lion Peggy Oyama) and Lion Allen Umeda (sponsor Lion Alvin Hayashibara).  Mahalo to PDG Mervin Wee for conducting the ceremony and our sponsors.  We appreciate their service to several of our activities already.

Your Club has made a $139 donation to the District 50 Disaster Fund held by the Hawaii Lions Foundation.  The disasters in District 50 as witnessed this past year is funded by this. Be sure to check out your Lion’s Magazine with articles of Big Island Lions helping the community in need due to the devastating loss from the volcano.

In January we had guest speakers Bob Armstrong, HLF Executive Director to inform us of the Hawaii Lions Foundation and PDG Chris Tamura who made a presentation on LCI Campaign 100 and joined by PDG Nadine Nishioka.

Mahalo to the Lions keeping our keiki safe by assisting HPD at traffic sign waving at Hahaione ES.  Also to Chair/1st VP, Ellsworth Fujii for coordinating the Eye Glass Cleaning and the many Lions and Leos that made it a success.

Congratulations to our Graduates of the Advanced Leadership Lions Institute, 1st VP Lion Ellsworth Fujii, Secretary Lion Eric Kvick and Lion Peggy Oyama.  Thanks to 3rd VP David Iwana for being one of the Advisors/Sensei.

We look forward to as Many Members to Attend our March 7 Meeting. It is important to the well being of our club for all to participate in our Membership Satisfaction Survey so we can engage our members by making it fun and interesting and to maintain and grow!

Have a Happy Valentine’s Day!

Aloha~

Lion Sandy Gomes
