Lions, CISs and friends,

Happy New Year!!!

We had a very festive Holiday Season last month.  Thanks goes to Lion Walter Kuroiwa for arranging the Christmas dinner of Hawaiian food with the Kupunas at Lunalilo Home.  We brought a lot of heart, Santa Claus (Lion Marty Jorgensen) and a gift for each resident of the home.  Although we were entertaining the Kupunas with Christmas carols, the residents were enjoying themselves as they were singing along with us.

Our Christmas dinner at Lung Fung was well coordinated by Lion Dennis Ching.  The outstanding selection of food was delicious and as usual too much for each table.  The mango pudding was a special dessert for our club.  As we were singing Christmas carols, led by Lions David Iwana, Al Hayashibara and Dennis Ching, we were joined by the Punahou Alumni Glee Club who had just entertained the Kupunas at Lunalilo Home earlier in the evening.

As we head into the second half of our fiscal year, our nominations chair, Immediate Past President Lion David Iwana is already lining up Lions for next year’s Board of Directors.  When contacted by Lion David, please help the club by volunteering for the many positions on the board.

Pancake Breakfast Chair Lion Rick Yee has started work on our annual fundraiser.  The Pancake Breakfast committee will be meeting on the fourth Thursday of every month until the actual breakfast.  Discussion will be held on the reservation of the Kaiser High School cafeteria, menu for the breakfast, cost per ticket, ticket sales, etc.

Lion Eric Kvick will give us an update on the Rescue Tube project and Lion Dr. Bill Modglin will report on a new project with Koko Head Elementary School at our first meeting in January.

Let us remain involved and focused as we keep the Hawaii Kai Lions Club as one of the best in Hawaii. Keep up the good work.

Lion Roy Aoki

2016-2017 President
