President’s Message

Aloha Fellow Lions and CIS,

It is my honor and privilege to be your new President.  I hope to serve you well, as Immediate Past President Jeanne has done such a wonderful job.

A warm Mahalo to All who contributed their time and service to make our 45th Annual Benefit Breakfast a huge success.  It was great to see our Hawaii Kai Lions joined in force by DG Blayne Hanagami, Lions from Manoa, Koko Head, Aloha Pono Club and also working hip to hip with Kaiser Cougars and Troop 101 Scouts.  In addition to our Rescue Tube awareness we also had Manoa Lions demonstrating and teaching CPR and use of the AED to the public.  The recognition on KHON 6:00 pm and 10:00 pm News were a bonus.

We handed out flyers this year which included the names of our Sponsors and the Community Service our Hawaii Kai Lions dedicate to each year.  Guests were commenting that this was a great idea and they did not realize how much the Lions do throughout the year!

We served over 3,100 breakfasts on Father’s Day.  Although, we did not serve as many breakfasts as we did in prior years we had a total of 3,791 ticket sales and double the amount of donations.  Our CIS Bake Sale, chaired by Sylvia Nakakura and Plant Sale, chaired by Loyal Mehroff was a Big Hit!

We are still receiving ticket sales money and hope to get the final count out soon.

Let’s welcome our new inducted Lion members Catherine Nurmi, Lion Cindy Giorgis serving as her sponsor and James Castillo, PDG Mervin Wee serving as his sponsor. Please introduce yourselves and share your heartfelt experiences as a Lion with them.

For the coming year, I hope to engage our members by getting feedback on projects and activities you are all interested in doing.  Be thinking of what your passions are and who and how you wish to help those.  “Where there’s a need, there’s a Lion.”

Mahalo,

Lion Sandy Gomes
