Hawaii Kai Lions District 50 - Club Number 14324

June 2015 President’s Message

Published by Webmaster on

Aloha! After an extremely busy month of May, we launch into June with intensity, as two major events, the Pancake Breakfast and the Lions Clubs International Convention, rapidly approach. We also need to wrap up the fiscal year and transition into the new one. I look forward to David Iwana’s Presidency and the new Board, and I beseech your continued support as Lions, CISes, district members, and friends to the Hawaii Kai Lions Club in the new fiscal year starting July 1st.

June’s upcoming activities include 06/04 Hawaii Kai meeting and Pancake Breakfast Prep Discussion, Diamond Head Lions Club’s Charter Night (06/10), Lions Clubs International Convention (“LCI”) (06/17 – 30), Aloha Party (06/18), Pancake Breakfast Prep (06/20), Pancake Breakfast (06/21), and Dinner with Chinese Lions (06/29).

As my year as Hawaii Kai Lions President draws to a close, I want to thank everyone for their support. It has been a quick year, and I am glad it is almost over, as I feel it is important that everyone take their turn, because it contributes to the enduring quality of the Hawaii Kai Lions Club. Although we joke about it, if each member were to just take his or her turn (then the Board positions subsequently get filled quickly to complement the President), and when the year is over, your job is done! Fortunately, Hawaii Kai does not struggle with dwindling numbers, people getting burned out (except maybe this year – sorry about that!), or people feeling they have to do more than their share, or serve as President or Board members for multiple years. So let’s continue to bring in enthusiastic new members as we have in 2014-15, keep on encouraging their move onto the Board, and still maintain our regular cadre who support our regular activities such as vision and hearing-related events, non-profit organization and school events and funding, etc., and strive to become an even greater presence in the Hawaii Kai community!

I also wish to give special thanks to CIS Sylvia Nakakura, whom I recently asked to work with HECO to promote our Pancake Breakfast in their newsletter, by obtaining and submitting CIS recipes on behalf of our club. Please watch for the HECO publication.

In closing, I’d like to thank this year’s Board members for all the great work they have done, changes they have made, coverage they have provided, and guidance they have given me. After every single Board meeting I attended this year, I felt very fortunate to have them serve in 2014-15. Thank you all for “getting on the bus!”

Mahalo!

Lion President Peggy Oyama
