Hawaii Kai Lions District 50 - Club Number 14324

June 2018 President’s Message

Published by Webmaster on

Aloha Lions,

It’s almost here—our 45th annual Father’s Day Pancake Breakfast.  Hard to believe another year has already come and gone.  Everyone has been working very hard selling tickets and hopefully we will surpass last year’s ticket sales.  Canvassing the neighborhoods has ended, but please continue to ask everyone if they’ve purchased their tickets yet.

May was a great month.  The District 50 convention took place in Hilo at the beginning of May.  Seven Hawaii Kai Lions and three CIS got to experience great food, meet fellow Lions from all over the state, and attend meetings, with a couple of earthquakes adding to the excitement.

I was so proud of our  Hawaii Kai Lions Club as we received several awards and recognition at the banquet.  We were recognized with the District -50 overall Stellar Club award for 2017-2018 along with $150.  Congratulations also go out to Lions Ellsworth, Sandy, Peggy, and David who all received certificates of appreciation for all their service to District -50 and LCI.  Congratulations to Lion Ken who was recognized with the International President’s Certificate for his many years as chairman of the Leadership Institute.  PDG Lion Mervin was also awarded the International Leadership Presidential Medal.  This is the highest honor awarded for his leadership and contributions to Club, District, and LCI. I am so thankful for all our dedicated members who give their time and energy to serve our community without expecting anything in return.  It is truly an honor to be associated with this great family called the Hawaii Kai Lions Club.

In May we also bid aloha to Lion Dr. Bill Modglin, and his son Eagle Scout Col Modglin.  Thank you to Lion Alvin and his CIS Jackie for opening their home for a great send-off.  Lion Eric provided home-made pizza and everyone brought a special dish for a typical local-style send-off.  We are sad to see them go and thank them so much for their service.  We will miss you and wish you both all the best for much happiness and success on your next journey.

This has been a fabulous year for our club, with many projects completed, and new members inducted. It is very important that we continue to focus on bringing new Lions on board and welcoming new ideas for projects that will help expand our reach in the community.

Finally, I would like to thank you for all your enthusiasm and support throughout this past year.  Although I was initially a little hesitant to accept the position of President, I am so humbled and glad you trusted me with this opportunity to lead this awesome group of dedicated people.  Having all of you as resources to answer my questions and guide me along the way made it much easier than I ever imagined.  Thank you to Lion Alvin and all the board members as well as PDG’s Mervin and Roy for all their support and guidance.   It was so comforting knowing you were all just an email or phone call away whenever I had a question.  Thank you to all the committee chairs who so efficiently managed their projects.  Mahalo to all the Hawaii Kai Lions who along with their very supportive CIS made our outreach to the Hawaii Kai Community and beyond a great success.

I am happy to pass the baton to our new President, Lion Sandy Gomes and her new Board of Directors with the confidence and the knowledge that she too will have the great support of all our members.  Here’s to another fabulous year!  Hawaii Kai Lions “No Ka Oi !!”

Mahalo and Aloha,

Lion Jeanne
