On January 6, 2023, eight Lions, one CIS, and one potential Lion participated in the traffic awareness sign waving event coordinated by HPD Officer John Mau at Kamiloiki Elementary School from 7:15 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. There were also additional HPD officers and Kamiloiki School student council members joining in the sign waving. Numerous cars passed by during this time, with several acknowledging the signs provided by HPD; some of which included: No Need To Speed, No Second Chances, Yield For Pedestrians, and Drunk Drivers are Deadly.

Lions participating included Ellsworth Fujii, Yolisa Ishibashi, Bill Kern, Walter Kuroiwa, Marja Leivo, Frances Lum, Ken Nishibun, Appan Subramanian, CIS Lyn Yee, and potential Lion JoniFukuji.

In support of the Community Policing Team of District 7 East Honolulu and Kamiloiki Elementary School, the Hawaii Kai Lions continue to encourage safe driving near our schools and look forward to participating in future projects with them, as well as the other schools within the community.
