March 2015 President’s Message

Published by Webmaster on

Aloha Hawaii Kai! I’m back, and thankful to the great Hawaii Kai Lions Club Board of Directors and members for your support, sympathy, and koden after the passing of my mother last month. You are a wonderful club, and my family and I wish to thank you for your messages of sympathy and support over the last 3 years, and the past month, in particular. Domo arigato gozaimasu.

February flew by with the Cub Scouts Blue & Gold Banquet on the 11th, and the Zone Social on the 15th. Thanks to Joel Leo and the Cub Scouts for hosting a wonderful dinner, and I give my appreciation also to those Lions who were in attendance. Regarding the Zone Social, I’d like to thank the Zone organizing committee, plus Ken Nishibun for getting the facility, and in particular, many thanks to the Koko Head Lions for putting on such a fabulous program! Then on February 19th, thanks to Scott Sakata, we had another fun time at the UH Wahine basketball game, when some 20 Hawaii Kai Lions and CISes were joined by Manoa Lions club to watch the game.

March promises to be both fun and interesting for our club with the CIS & Lions Sashimi night March 5th, and then a visit by our Hawaii Lions Foundation Trustee, Selvin Chin-Chance, on the 19th. I hope everyone is able to attend both these events/club meetings! Also, registration for the District 50 Convention is due by March 8th, so please bring your form and payment to my house the night of March 5th.

Hawaii Kai Lions is excited to announce that we are purchasing a PlusOptix vision testing machine! If you would still like to donate to the purchase, please advise Eric Kvick or Peggy Oyama before March 15th. For more information about the purchase, please see the article later in this bulletin.

Hawaii Kai’s Charter Night will take place Friday, April 17th at the New Otani Kaimana Beach Hotel, and I thank Kaz Nakano and his committee for getting the ball rolling already. As usual, we will have both a golf tourney and dedication ceremony to the Hawaii Kai Library with our guests from the Nagoya Joto Lions Club. We will also install the 2015-16 Board of Directors on Charter Night, so we are currently hard at work filling the slate.

Our annual Father’s Day Pancake Breakfast takes place June 21st, so we will be pounding the pavement, selling tickets before you know it! Please do your best to support David Iwana and the 2015 Pancake Breakfast to ensure another successful year for the Hawaii Kai Lions Club.

June 2015 brings the Lions Clubs International Convention, and as I may have mentioned in the past, we have PDG Mervin Wee serving as an Advisor on the Host Committee, Ken Nishibun serving as Manpower Chair, and I am serving as Transportation & Hospitality Chair. Cynthia Chun is also serving on my committee. We sincerely ask for Hawaii Kai Lions, CISes, family and friends to support this rare event by volunteering now to help at the convention. Please see the article later in this bulletin which describes some of the volunteer needs.

Thank you, Lions!
