Lions, CISs and friends,

Mahalo to Lion Kaz Nakano for organizing the Charter Night celebration and Installation of Officers.  Thanks go to the Lions and CISs who hosted Nagoya Joto Lions Club Past President Shinichi Nakahara and CIS Shigeko on Wednesday night the 19th of April at Hy’s Steak House.  Also the Lions and CISs who hosted Nagoya Joto Lions Club President Yoshihiro Kobayashi and CIS Tomoko along with Past President Shinichi Nakahara and CIS Shigeko at Roy’s Restaurant in Waikiki on Thursday night the 20th of April.  Also thank you to the Lions who hosted Noriko Okamoto (daughter of Nagoya Joto Lions member Hiroshi Okamoto) during her 24 day home stay in Hawaii.

We are currently in the midst of our fundraising efforts.  District Public Relations Chairman Irwin Santos has agreed to help our club in publicizing our Pancake Breakfast fundraiser.  In the past, he has been able to get television coverage before and during our Pancake Breakfast.  The amount of funds raised will determine how much we will be able to spend on the activities for the upcoming year.  The Pancake Breakfast committee will order more sausage, eggs, reduce the amount of milk and increase the amount of juice as there were a huge amount of milk left over last year. Lions continue your efforts to sell as much tickets so we can make this year’s breakfast a huge success.

With the school year coming to a close in the near future, we are preparing certificates and gift cards for the winners of the Sight is Beautiful contest and all the JPOs (Junior Police Officers) at the Hahaione, Kamiloiki and Koko Head elementary schools in Hawaii Kai.  A representative from the Hawaii Kai Lions will be at the final assembly at each school to make that presentation.

Lastly, the Rescue Tube program co-chaired by Lions Eric Kvick and Dr. Bill Modglin is making headway.  After much research, data gathering, meetings with politicians, and the neighborhood board, the Hawaii Kai Lions were able to give away 100 rescue tubes at Maunalua Bay last week.

Let us remain involved and focused as we keep the Hawaii Kai Lions Club as one of the best in Hawaii. Keep up the good work.

Lion Roy Aoki

2016-2017 President
