Aloha Lions, CIS and Friends!

Hawaii Kai Lions were busy at work supporting our community and beyond.  Thank you to our Chairs and Co-Chairs for coordinating the following:

-Koko Head Elementary Easter Egg Extravaganza, C: Lion Ellsworth Fujii

-Safety awareness – sign waving at Kamiloiki Elementary, C: L. Marja Leivo.

-Environmental workday and Citizenship Ceremony, C: L. Peggy Oyama and Co-C: L. Allen Umeda.

Mahalo to our volunteers for your time and compassion for the greater cause.

We had a wonderful celebration of our 46th Anniversary at New Otani Hotel.  Big mahalo to Chair Kazuaki Nakano and Co-Chair Ed Lee for a spectacular evening.  To kick off the magical evening were the “Friends Quartet.”  Thank you to CIS Carole Wee and her lovely members for gracing us with a heartfelt performance.  Mahalo to CIS Loyal Merhoff for taking photos during the event.

Joining us in celebration were District Governor Bob Lee and CIS Pamela, seven Nagoya Joto Lions and their CIS and family members.  Our sponsored club the Hibiscus Club members and Koko Head Zone Chair Gary Nip, CIS Joyce and Lion Gavin Hall also helped celebrate our special evening.

Aloha to our Charter member Lions – Delwin Ching, Bunny Lee, Chong Fook Leu, Richard Okamoto and Rick Yee.  Congratulations to the clubs 2019 – 2020 Board of Directors inducted by DG Bob Lee.

I had the privilege to select the “Lion of the Year” Award.  The award was presented to our outstanding Lion, David Iwana.  He has participated in #38 out of the #64 activities and even worked double shifts for some.  Lion David has proactively provided me guidance for me to carry out my duties as President and I truly appreciate all he has done for me and other members.  CIS Iris is also a tremendous help at our activities.

1st VP Ellsworth had a heartfelt message to the Club and during his term, he would like everyone to be sure to “have fun!”

Mahalo to Lion Peggy and her sister, Michiyo Kishiuchi for their participation in numerous service activities.  Please be sure to check out their narratives on their activities.

Thank you all for your support in raising funds by selling breakfast tickets.  This will allow our club to continue its service to the community.

Lion Ken summarized your feedback on our Clubs survey. He had us participate in an exercise where we all learned something about ourselves as well as how to communicate with others. Although my term as President is coming to a close, Lion Ellsworth and his new Board will be able to take the information gathered, and prioritize your suggestions and create a map to work on and propel the Club to improvement.

Keep up the Awesome job!

Mahalo,

Lion President Sandy Gomes
