May 2020 President’s Message
How are you adjusting to the shelter-in-place mandate? Your yard should be nicely manicured and house removed of old not-needed items. Mine still need some work so let me know if you can come and help me. Good news is that some businesses are opening up. I work part-time at a golf course so had to go in on Friday. We were really busy, golfers haven’t played over a month so want to get out, like most of us. Of course, we all had to follow the safety guidelines, working and golfing. Life will be different for a while!
The Board has had 2 virtual Zoom meetings. It took a bit of getting used to but accomplishes our needs. Hope you will be able to join us for a Zoom club social on Thursday, May 7 at 7:00pm thanks to David Iwana. He will be emailing an invitation as well as some virtual meeting etiquette.
The Board met to discuss whether there were any service projects we could perform without endangering the Lions. The organizations primarily need monetary donations. With the cancellation of our Father’s Day Pancake breakfast, the Board decided to save the unspent monies from this year’s projects for next year. A request was sent to the D50 Public Relations director to send a press release to inform the public that our Father’s Day pancake breakfast has been cancelled this year.
Thanks to Lions Cynthia Chun, Frances Lum, Allen Umeda, Rich Halverson, and Eric Kvick for helping the Cyber Lions make and distribute face shield to hospitals and healthcare facilities.
Some good things lockdown, I’ve been watching some NFL replays, games that I didn’t get a chance to watch before. If you are like me and have too much time on my hands, think about this:
- Every time you clean something, you just make something else dirt.
- The word “swims” upside-down is still “swims”.
- 100 years ago, everyone owned a horse and only the rich had cars. Today everyone has cars and only the rich own horses.
- If you replace “W” with “T” in “What, Where and When”, you get the answer to each of them.
- Your future self is watching you right now through memories.
We’ll have to wait until Governor allows groups to meet for our next meeting. In the meantime, please send Kendrick or me a note about what you are doing to keep busy and want to share with the club. The small light at the end of the tunnel is growing, we need to begin preparing for how we proceed next.
