Hawaii Kai Lions District 50 - Club Number 14324

November 2015 President’s Message

Published by Webmaster on

Aloha Lions, CIS and friends of Hawaii Kai Lions!

This fall is filled with the anticipation of the glorious holiday season! As expected, our club calendar continues to be packed with activities benefiting our community. Recent events include vision screenings, the White Cane Walk and the Kamiloiki Keiki Carnival to name a few. With everyone’s continued support, we can make a difference!

Please stay tuned for many more opportunities for activities and events in November, especially with more screenings as we slowly complete our scheduled visits. I must thank all those Lions that came out to our vision screenings and witnessed the speed and accuracy of the process. We are all now in the groove, efficiently doing student crowd control, testing with either the distance charts or our new PlusOptix equipment, and even doing the paperwork. The screening has become more of a Zone activity, as Koko Head Lions and Kaimuki Lions also bring their PlusOptix equipment! Each club has committed to support each other by continuing to combine our efforts, really making it efficient. Good ‘ole Lion Spirit!

With the change in membership status of Lion Keith Kogachi to an affiliate member, the position of 1st Vice President needs to be filled. As you are aware, we have opened nominations for the position and will have a special election on 11/5/2015. I want to personally thank Lion Keith for his invaluable contributions as 1st VP and look forward to seeing him at future activities and events.

Let us all welcome our new Hawaii Kai Lions members Lion Joe Baumgartner and CIS Kelli Baumgartner, Lion Cindy Giorgis, and Lion Lianne Poppinga and CIS Victor Poppinga. Of course, let’s not forget their sponsors, respectively, Lion Bill Modglin, Lion David Iwana and Lion Jeanne Alices. It is great to see growth within our club as we strive for future sustainability of membership. This is a real sign of a healthy club!

The Centennial celebration of Lions Clubs International has already begun, with many special events and activities leading up to 2017! It is so wonderful to be part of an organization with such a great legacy. “We Serve” as Knights of the Blind by not only helping identify vision issues in our youth, but by providing them an example of leadership in our community. This is meaningful during this month of giving thanks.

Please enjoy the holidays as they are a special time of the year!

Aloha,

Lion President David Iwana
