December 2016 President’s Message

Lions, CISs and friends,

As we are in the Holiday season, I would like to thank Lions Cynthia Chun, Eric Kimura, Eric Kvick, Ken Nakagawa, and Scott Sakata for volunteering to help the Koko Head Lions Club delivery of the turkey lunches for the Meals on Wheels program on Thanksgiving Day. Many thanks go to Holiday Parade Chair Lion Ken Nishibun, the many Hawaii Kai Lions, and other volunteers who turned out to help put together the annual Holiday Parade on Lunalilo Home Road. We received many emails congratulating the Hawaii Kai Lions for putting on another excellent parade. Many parade participants requested their organization be allowed to participate in future parades. Lion Ken and his helpers’ prayers did good for a “no rain” event.

At our last meeting on November17, we set a record by having all four of our Lions who are doctors present at our meeting. It was really nice to see Lion Dr. Russell Imanaka (dentist), Lion Dr. Roger Ede (optometrist), Lion Dr. William Modglin (chiropractor) and Lion Dr. Kerry Yoon (veterinarian) at the meeting at the same time.

Our meetings in December will be festive occasions. On our first meeting of December we will have a Hawaiian dinner with the kupunas at the Lunalilo Home and we will also bring some holiday cheer to them when Santa comes with his bag of presents. As we have done for many years, Santa will give each resident a present. Thank you Lion Marty Jorgensen (Santa) for bringing cheer to the residents of the Lunalilo Home. Also CIS Sylvia Nakakura who spent many hours purchasing and wrapping the gifts for the kupunas. The second meeting will be our Christmas dinner at Lung Fung. Thank you Lion Dennis Ching for arranging the dinner. I understand we will have a special dinner with also a special dessert.

Let us remain involved and focused as we keep the Hawaii Kai Lions Club as one of the best in Hawaii. Keep up the good work.
