September 2018 President’s Message

Aloha Lions, CIS and friends,

WOW!  Our Hawaii Kai Lions have so much to be proud of.  Councilmember Trevor Ozawa presented to your Club The City Council Honorary Certificate For 45 Years Of Service To The Community!  Let’s reflect on our remaining Charter Members, who had the vision to serve and give back to the Hawaii Kai Community, Lions Delwin Ching, Bunny Lee, Chong Fook Leu, Toshio Nishioka, Richard Okamoto and Rick Yee.

Thank you to All our members for contributing your time, kindness, man and woman power.  This was a Special Validation of Recognition that all you do is Appreciated!

My Heartfelt Gratitude to Ellsworth for stepping up during my absence and conducting the Clubs Meeting in July. I also appreciated every ones kind words and concern for me. I am blessed to be a part of your family.

Mahalo to Chair Cynthia and those that attended the Hawaii Lions Youth Camp Aloha Dinner International at Lanakila Senior Center to conclude a fond Aloha to the International Students. DG Bob Lee reported that next year there will not be an International Youth Camp due to limited host families.

The volunteers at The Annual Heart & Stroke Walk Fundraiser Chaired by Jeanne and Catherine had a fun and memorable time, rubbing elbows with their cohorts and finding Siamese twin bananas. As we cheered the walkers across the finish line and handed them a lunch bag, they expressed their appreciation by thanking the Lions.

We were fortunate to have guest speaker, Steve Tam from the Alzheimer’s Association enlighten us about the difference between Dementia vs. Alzheimer’s. Also, the challenges families are faced with and how their Association may help.  Members asked how Lions can be of service and Steve mentioned the Alzheimer Assoc. Walk they are having on Sept. 8.

Zone Chair Gary Nip visited our Club and shared DG Bob Lee’s strong message about Clubs requirement to grow their membership to avoid increasing dues. Members are welcome to attend the Cabinet Meetings:

2nd Cabinet Meeting – Oct. 20, 2018 at Damien Memorial School from 9:00 am – 2:30 pm.

3rd Cabinet Meeting – Feb. 8 – 10 at KMC from 9:00 am – 2:30 pm.
